Wedding Invitations – Choosing a Typeface
66
Your wedding invitations are the most important part of your wedding stationery. They set the mood and tone of the wedding celebration. They are the first glimpse your guests have of your wedding day style.
The typeface or font you choose for your wedding invitations is very important. What font you choose will alter the style of the design dramatically and can create a formal or informal feel to your wedding.
The Traditional Invite
For a traditional look and feel to your wedding invitations choose a serif font. A serif font has little curly bits on the end of the letters. Examples are the Times typeface or Times New Roman or Georgia typefaces. These fonts will create a more traditional feel to your wedding and are a good choice if you are having a formal wedding.
The Modern Invite
For a modern wedding invitation choose a sans-serif font. For example Arial or Helvetica. These fonts don't have extra curly bits and create a more contemporary look to your invites. This style of typeface is a good idea for modern, more informal weddings.
The Romantic Invite
Script fonts are really curly fonts, often used is the Scriptina font. I recommend using this style of font in conjunction with a modern sans-serif font. This is because the extra curly bits make the font harder to read. I recommend using a script font for the names of the Bride and Groom whilst the remainder of the invitation should be printed in a sans-serif font. This will create a contemporary but elegant and romantic feel to your wedding stationery.
